About transport assistance funding

The COVID-19 Alert Levels sometimes change the way public transport works.

COVID-19 Alert Levels have rules that people must follow to stop the spread of COVID-19.

Public transport means:

Buses

R

Trains

R

Ferries

These changes can make it hard for some people to use public transport safely.

The Ministry of Social Development has set up some transport assistance funding.

Transport assistance is money that assists with paying the cost of transport for work if you are an essential worker who has:

R

a disability 

R

a health condition

An essential worker is someone who needs to work at every COVID-19 Alert Level.

Essential workers are people like:

R

supermarket staff

R

doctors

R

cleaners

The transport assistance funding is part of the Job Support Funds program.

The transport assistance funding is for the costs of:

R

getting to work

R

getting home from work

The transport assistance funding can be used to pay for transport services like:

R

taxis

R

Driving Miss Daisy

R

other similar travel providers

The transport assistance funding cannot be used to pay for services like Uber.

The transport assistance funding is only available when the area you live is at:

R

Covid-19 Alert Level 3

R

Covid-19 Alert Level 4

The transport assistance funding will stop when your area moves back to:

R

Covid-19 Alert Level 1

R

Covid-19 Alert Level 2

How to apply for transport assistance funding

If you want to apply for transport assistance you will need either:

R

a letter from your doctor telling us about your disability or

R

a medical certificate from your doctor

You will also need to have:

R

a letter from your employer telling us you are an essential worker

R

filled in the Job Support Funds application found at this website

You then need to email these 3 documents to us at sfs@supportfunds.co.nz

You need to write Essential Worker as the email subject so that we know to check it quickly.

If you do not use email then you can phone the Workbridge Support Funds team on 0508 967 527

This phone number will not cost you any money to call.

The Workbridge Support Funds team can assist you with your application.
